Geometry Syllabus 2017-2018

Mr. Hallock

Geometry Students and Parents:

Welcome to Geometry! Please take a few minutes to review the classroom policies and procedures. A copy of this letter will be on my website throughout the year.

Supplies needed daily:

  1. Your Geometry Textbook, Loose leaf Paper, Pencil, 2 Spiral Notebooks and 3 Ring Binder.
  2. ¼ Inch Graph Paper (Around 100 Sheets for the entire year – you may store it in my room)
  3. 2 Dry Erase Markers (Periodically for Review)
  4. Compass and Protractor (For Constructions)
  5. Scientific Calculator

Come Prepared to Class:

  1. Come to class on time.
  2. Participate and follow instructions during class.
  3. Be respectful of myself and all members of the class.
  4. Be responsible for your own learning. You will have opportunities to work in groups, but you are responsible for the material.
  5. Cell Phones are NOT allowed to be out in class. We will discuss the rewards/consequences for following this rule in class.
  6. Follow all the rules of the Skyview Student Handbook.

Assignment Guidelines:

  1. All assignments must be done in Pencil. Assignments are done on a daily basis.
  2. Assignments must be completed in the SHS math department format. Label each assignment in the upper right hand corner with Name, Date, and Period. List the assignment on the top line starting on the left.
  3. Assignments will be graded on a 2-point scale. In order to receive credit, you MUST show all work.
    1. 0 – Didn’t do the assignment, finished less than half, or showed no work

1 – Over half the assignment is finished with work shown

2 – Finished the assignment with work shown

  4. Assignments will be posted on PowerSchool and on my website, as well as on one of the white boards in my room. If you are absent it is your responsibility to complete the assignment(s) you have missed according to the Student Handbook. If you are absent for a school event, it is your responsibility to figure out the assignment before your absence.
  5. Make up work and Late Work must be completed and turned in before the current unit test covering the material. Late work will earn a maximum score of 80%. No make-up or late work will be accepted after the current chapter test has been taken.
  6. All returned assignments, quizzes, tests, and notes/vocabulary will be kept in your 3-ring binder for your use for the entire semester.

  1. Semester grade is based on Homework (10%), In Class Work (10%), Quizzes (25%), Tests (40%), and the Final (15%)
  2. Grading Scale: “A” (90-100% - Mastery), “B” (80-89% - Proficient), “C” (70-79% - Meets Minimum Standard), “D” (60-69% - Basic), “F” (Below 60% - Below Basic)
  3. Students may retake any formal formative assessment (Quiz) no more than twice. The retake will only be administered after the student has provided evidence that additional learning has taken place. This includes attending at least one period of intervention. Retakes will replace any previous scores on the formative assessment. There will be no penalty assigned to a retake, meaning you can earn up to 100% on a quiz retake.
  4. Students may retake any summative test once. The retake will only be administered after the student has provided evidence that additional learning has taken place. This includes attending at least one period of intervention.
  5. The retake of the summative test must be completed before the scheduled date of the next unit test. The retake will replace any previous scores on the test and there will be no penalty assigned to a retake, meaning students can earn up to 100% on the test.
  6. Retakes on Final Exams are NOT allowed.
  7. The LAD (Last Acceptable Date) for all assignments and retakes will coincide with the end of the unit of study and will be clearly communicated. Class work and assessments for the timeframe will be accepted up to the LAD. Zeroes will be assigned for past due work with the understanding students may turn in work until the LAD.
  8. Because so much of the work in math requires original thought and reasoning, cheating, including plagiarism, on ANY assignment or test, is automatically assigned a failing grade of zero. A student who willfully supplies materials to another student for copying is considered subject to the same penalties – both students will receive a score of zero. In addition, the matter will be entered into PowerSchool and brought to the attention of the other school authorities concerning possible further action and consequences.

  1. Please show up to class each day with a positive and productive attitude.
  2. Be an active participant.
  3. If there is an academic or behavioral problem, the following steps will be followed:
    1. a.Mr. Hallock will meet with student outside of class time.
    2. If the problem continues Parent(s) will be contacted by Mr. Hallock.
    3. If the problem continues Mr. Hallock will meet with Parent(s), Student, and Administrator.
