Course Descriptions and Prerequisites
ME523 COLOR GUARD, Fall Trimester, One Credit
PREREQUISITE: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grades, Auditions may be required OR instructor approval
Instruction will include movement basics; equipment basics with flag and rifle; performance observation and analysis; and basic design and choreography. In the fall this course includes rehearsal & performance or precision drill routines (during the Marching Band Season, August-October).
This group requires “after school” time for rehearsals and local performance. Fees associated with this program.
This course counts for PE or Humanities credit
MU220 JAZZ BAND II, Two Trimesters, Two Credits
PREREQUISITE: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grades. Current enrollment in Marching/Concert Band/Wind Ensemble or equivalent.
Students will perform various styles of music as selected by the band director at concerts, festivals, and community events, including some basketball games.
MU230 JAZZ BAND I, Year/Three Trimesters, Three Credits
PREREQUISITE: 10th, 11th, 12th grades or by permission of instructor, current enrollment in Marching/ Concert Band/Wind Ensemble or equivalent and audition.
Offered at CHS, NHS, SHS
Auditions for this select ensemble are held in the spring for fall enrollment. This is the top jazz ensemble & students will perform various styles of advanced music as selected by the band director at concerts, festivals, and community events, including some basketball games.
The classes below are taken together for percussionist to make a full year:
MU113 DRUMLINE, Fall Trimester, One Credits
PREREQUISITE: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grades
Offered at home high school.
In the fall this course includes rehearsal & performance or precision drill routines (during the Marching Band Season, August-October). This course is open to anyone who plays a percussion instrument. Music is selected for the season and performed as all home football games as well as additional competitions as chosen by the director. Enrollment in percussion ensemble for the winter and spring trimester is required.
MU153 PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE, Two Trimester, Two Credits
PREREQUISITE: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grades
Offered at home high school.
This course is open to anyone who plays a percussion instrument. Students will practice music that will be part of the concert band and wind ensemble classes as well as percussion ensemble music. A focus will be placed on percussion playing techniques. Enrollment in drumline in fall trimester is required.
The classes below are taken together for woodwinds and brass to make a full year:
MU103 MARCHING BAND, Fall Trimester, One Credit
PREREQUISITE: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grades
Offered at home high school.
In the Fall this course includes rehearsal & performance or precision drill routines (during the Marching Band Season, August-October). This course is open to anyone who plays a wind instrument. Music is selected for the season and performed at all home football games as well as additional competitions as chosen by the director. Rehearsal of contemporary & traditional concert band music occurs following marching season.
Enrollment in concert band or wind ensemble for the winter and spring trimester is required.
MU123 CONCERT BAND, Two Trimester, Two Credits
PREREQUISITE: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grades
Offered at home high school.
This course is the continuation of the fall marching band class. Students will perform various styles of music as selected by the band director at concerts, festivals, and community events. Enrollment in Marching Band during fall trimester is required.
MU133 WIND ENSEMBLE, Two Trimester, Two Credits
PREREQUISITE: 10th, 11th, 12th grades, Audition required.
Offered at home high school.
This course is the continuation of the Fall marching band class. This is the top instrumental ensemble & students will perform various styles of advanced music as selected by the band director at concerts, festivals, and community events.
Enrollment in Marching Band during fall trimester is required.
